How to Start an SMM Reseller Business in Kenya (Pricing, API and Finding Clients)

3 min read · Published · Panel Notes

Every week, someone in your circle wants more followers for a new business page, more views on a music video, or more members in a Telegram channel. An SMM reseller turns that demand into income: buy services from a panel at wholesale-like prices, sell them to clients at a markup, and handle the service and support in between.

How the reseller model works

The supply chain is simple:

Provider → Panel → You (reseller) → Client

You don't need to know how the engagement is produced. Your job is to:

  • Know which services work well for which needs
  • Set prices clients understand and that leave you a margin
  • Take payment, place the order, and keep the client updated
  • Handle the occasional partial order or delay calmly

If you're new to panels, start with our explainer on what an SMM panel is.

Three ways to resell, from easiest to most advanced

1. Manual reselling (start here)

Clients contact you on WhatsApp or Instagram. You quote a price, they pay you by M-Pesa, you place the order on your panel and send them updates. No website, no code. This is how most resellers start, and it teaches you which services sell.

2. A WhatsApp or Telegram storefront

Put your price list in a WhatsApp Business catalog or a Telegram channel. Clients order from it, you fulfil. Still manual, but more professional and easier to scale.

3. Your own panel website via API

Once you have steady orders, you can run your own panel website that connects to a supplier panel through its API. Orders flow automatically: your client orders on your site, your site places the order with your supplier, and status updates sync back.

Understanding the API

Most panels offer a standard API v2. You get an API key from your account, and your software sends simple requests:

ActionWhat it does
servicesLists every service with ID, name, category, rate per 1,000, min and max
addPlaces an order: service ID, link, quantity
statusReturns an order's status, start count and remaining amount
balanceShows your current balance
refillRequests a refill for an order, where the service supports it

Because it's a standard format, most reseller panel scripts can plug into it by just entering the API URL and key.

Exo Gains has a reseller API in this standard format; you'll find your key under More → API for resellers in your account. Regular resellers can also get a permanent discount on their account.

Pricing for profit

Your price = your cost × (1 + markup). Some guidelines:

  • Small personal orders (a student wanting 1,000 followers): higher markup, 80–150%. The order is small, so the shilling amount is still low for the client.
  • Business pages and musicians: 50–100%, with package deals ("Launch pack: 2K followers + likes on 5 posts").
  • Agencies and repeat clients: 30–50%, but larger volumes.

Price in round shilling amounts that are easy to pay by M-Pesa — KES 500, KES 1,000, KES 2,500 — rather than odd numbers. Always take payment before placing the order.

Finding your first clients

  • Your own network. Small business owners, musicians, content creators, church and school pages.
  • Show results. Grow your own TikTok or Instagram with your services (moderately) and post the before/after.
  • Packages for launches. New shop opening, new song release, event promotion — people pay for a strong start.
  • Referral programs. Some panels pay you for bringing other buyers. On Exo Gains, a friend who joins with your code gets a discount on their first orders and you earn a percentage of their deposits.

Running it well

  • Test every service yourself before selling it
  • Tell clients realistic start times — under-promise
  • Never ask clients for passwords; you only need public links
  • Keep a simple record: client, service, link, amount paid, order ID
  • Choose a supplier panel with automatic refunds for partial orders, so you can pass refunds on easily
  • Keep a buffer balance so you can place orders the moment a client pays

Reselling is a customer-service business more than a technical one. Be fast, honest and reliable, and repeat clients will do your marketing for you.

FAQ

How much money do I need to start reselling SMM services?

Very little. You can start by buying from a panel on behalf of clients with a small balance and taking payment upfront by M-Pesa. Building your own panel website costs more but is optional at the start.

What markup should an SMM reseller charge?

Many resellers charge between 40% and 150% above their cost, depending on the service and the client. Small orders for individuals can carry a higher markup; agencies and repeat clients expect lower prices.

What is an SMM panel API?

It is a way for software to place and track orders automatically. A standard API v2 lets your own website or bot fetch the service list, add orders, check their status and see your balance.
